I decided to enter the Repreve & Tekhni Earthweek Giveaway (April 2015) to show my support for 2 companies who are doing amazing things for the babywearing world AND the environment. I must get tagged in these babywearing giveaways on Facebook at least 2-3 times a day, but this is the only one I have ever entered for myself. And go figure we won.... I don't know which good luck angels were blessing me that day because I seriously don't know WHAT I have been doing with my life for the last 21 months without this wrap.
This was the MOST exciting fluff mail we had gotten and we wasted no time opening it so that it could get the obligatory "first wash." Straight out of the box, she was so soft and cushy. I noticed immediately that the weave of the wrap was very delicate and made a mental note to myself to be sure and remove all jewelry before wrapping. This is a habit I try to keep with all wraps, but Candy's threads are ESPECIALLY prone to pulls and snags because they are so raised and textured. This is the exact reason why, in all honesty, I would not suggest making this your everyday wrap or something you would use for rushed jobs or wrapping fussy/squirmy babies. You can always fix the snags/pull later if you know how, so you don't need to worry too much!
This wrap is a touch on the thicker side, but it's not overwhelming and, just from looking at it, you can tell it is going to be nice and breathable. (This wrap is actually a lighter version of Olympos and Ceres, 2 other lines of Tekhni Woven Wraps.) I LOVE how much bounce this wrap has to offer, and actually it's pretty deceiving. When I think about support for a squirmy toddler, I always automatically assume that I am going to need to something thick and stiff. (Or am I thinking of a straight jacket? lol KIDDING!) Meandros Candy is so cushy, and I really wasn't sure if it was going to offer the support that we needed or if it was going to be one of those pretty wraps you only wear for special occasions. Immediately after Candy was done washing, drying, and getting ironed we took her out for the first (of many) long walks. I had to see for myself how she would hold up against the test of several miles and 2 VERY active toddlers.
Now, there are several points during our long walks that put my wrapping skills to the test. (Berries, birds, flowers, the stream... LOTS of reaching, leaning, and "jumping.") N usually doesn't like having her hands wrapped inside. In fact there has been a time when I actually had to slide my ruck strap off my shoulder cjust so that she could get her arm out. She pretty serious about her hands. So, I'm sure that you can imagine my shock when she ASKED for me for "awm innn" as I was wrapping. Ya it's that snuggly. The width is great for getting a nice deep seat on the back without having to worry about easily popping it, and it made spreading the FCC passes over my front baby a breeze. Spreading and securing my front baby's FCC passes all the way to the armpit is usually my biggest struggle in tandem wearing a FCC in one wrap because the girls are so wiggly and wraps don't always want to work with you in such a tight pinch.
The only reason why I had to keep 1/2 of my "star" is because this wrap is definitely on the delicate side of the care scale which would have made me think twice had I been looking to purchase. The weave is intricate and very textured, but worth every sweat I break and penny I would never have been able to afford to pay. I actually wrapped Candy in Chicago (outside) and the wind caused so many snags it about made me cry! But the way intense pink REPREVE weft is woven into the natural cotton will leave you admiring it for hours and make you never want to part with it. And of course Repreve lived up to it's name by keeping me dry and cool while wicking away moisture from us. (When we finished our walk you could see the sweat on my back from where the wrap wasn't between us!)
Overall I think this wrap is an amazing addition to anyone looking for a pretty pink wrap that won't be used everyday. This wrap would be perfect for adventures where you don't have to worry about it getting too dirty or touching a dirty floor as you wrap or for hot days. (FYI: I put my tails in the trunk/car as I wrap in a parking lot.) This wrap is a sold out limited edition so the best way to be able to call this beauty your own is to check out the Facebook Babywearing B/S/T (buy/sell/trade) pages. I am SO glad to call this wrap my own and never see myself parting ways with it!
